Question 36
Innovations in Solar Energy
Solar panels use special cells that capture sunlight and generate electricity. This electricity carries energy that is used to power devices and machines in homes and businesses. These solar panels are now becoming more efficient in generating electricity because of new discoveries in materials and electrical circuit design.
A big advancement in solar technology is bifacial solar panels (Figure 12.35) that can capture light from both the front and back sides, thereby producing much more electricity. This works because light that bounces off the ground or nearby things can also be used to generate electricity. Using these panels means that more power can be generated without needing more land for solar installations.
