Investigate large and small calcium carbonate (marble) chips reacting with hydrochloric acid. Use the same method for both experiments: a gas syringe, a top-pan balance or gas collected over water. Use 5 g chips and 25 cm³ acid each time. Assemble your apparatus. Add 5 g large chips to 25 cm³ acid. Start the timer; read gas volume or mass every 30 seconds until at least three readings are the same. Record carefully. Repeat with 5 g smaller chips. Plot both sets on one graph.
