Compare what happens when an iron nail, iron wool and iron filings are heated in air. Record your observation for each. Use tongs to hold the nail and iron wool in a Bunsen flame; gently sprinkle a few filings from a spatula into the flame. Wear safety glasses and do not touch hot objects.
