Make a random pattern of your own. (Use a row of 9 squares.)

Make a regular pattern of your own. (Use a row of 9 squares.)

Explain to your partner why you think this.

*Tip: Look at which colour takes up the most space on the spinners.*

Question 8

Work with a partner. You will need a coin.

Question illustration

If you each toss the coin 5 times, what do you think the results will be?

Say what you think the result will be before you toss the coin.

Complete the table as you play.

| 5 | | |
| 6 | | |
| 7 | | |
| 8 | | |
| 9 | | |
| 10 | | |

How good were your guesses?

If you tossed the coin 20 times, do you think the result would be the same? Discuss this with your partner.

Question 9

Work with a partner.

You will need digit cards 0–9.

1. Shuffle the cards and turn them face down in a pile on the table in front of you.
2. Player 1 turns the top card over and places it on the table so that it can be seen.
3. Player 2 must say if the next card turned will be higher or lower than the previous one giving their reasons.
4. Keep a record of what you said would happen and what actually happened.
5. Play continues until the last card is turned.

How many of your guesses were true?

*"I think it will be lower because ..." "I think it will be higher because ..."*

Question 10

Marcus: *"The tens digit stays the same. The ones digit changes."*

Find, complete and describe each regular number pattern.

**a** 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, \_\_\_, \_\_\_, \_\_\_, \_\_\_

Question 12
