Question 74
Preparing copper chloride: place 25 cm³ dilute hydrochloric acid in a small beaker. Add copper carbonate a spatula at a time until no more reacts and a little solid remains. Filter off the excess solid, then heat the filtrate gently in an evaporating basin. Stop when crystals appear at the edge; leave for a few days to cool and crystallise. Hot solution may spit and burn. Using your observations, what can you say about the solubility of copper carbonate and copper chloride in hydrochloric acid? Think about filtering.
