In this task, you will test some materials to find out whether they are conductors or insulators.
Work in pairs or groups of three.
You will need (for each group): a battery or cell, a lamp, crocodile clips, wires, a selection of materials to test, such as items found in the classroom.
Safety: Never connect a conductor directly across the terminals of a cell, battery or other power supply without the lamp in the circuit.
1 Set up a circuit as shown in the drawing.
2 Touch the crocodile clips together and watch what happens to the lamp.
3 Test some materials by connecting the materials between the crocodile clips.
